FAQS - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Green Fund?
It is a grant facility, generated from a tax levied on corporate entities.  This funding is then distributed to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and other groups for environmentally focused projects in the areas of remediation, reforestation and conservation.

Who has access?
All NGOs and CBOs registered with the Ministry of Community Development or the Tobago House of Assembly or any other body incorporated by or under a law other than the Companies Act, and including non-profit companies incorporated under the Companies Act, that are engaged in activities related to the remediation, reforestation and conservation of the environment.

Does the recipient need to repay the Grant?
No, provided the funded activities approved are satisfactorily completed and the funding is properly accounted for.

How is the process governed?
The Green Fund Executing Unit reviews all applications which are then submitted to the Green Fund Advisory Committee. Satisfactory applications are then recommended to the Minister responsible for the Environment for approval. Upon approval, an agreement is signed and part of the project’s approved funds is disbursed and project implementation initiated.

Can an organization apply for more than one grant?
This may be possible, provided the Minister is satisfied with the applicant’s capacity, performance and accountability.
